They get rid of the "hum" your amp makes and improves the quality of the sound, making it sound more tight and the like, something that should be on everyone's pedal board in my opinion. I've also found they improve the sound of clean playing also and give the guitar more sustain.

iSP Decimator all the way. There is no better one than the Decimator, well in my opinion anyway
