Im looking towards a new amp and a new guitar. But I'm not sure which one to pick first. So should I get a new guitar first or a new amp?

Depends on what you have right now and how much you have to spend.

Unless your guitar is utter crap or you have very limited funds, you usually go for a new amp.

Amp gives you 90% of your tone if you ask me.

I'd say amp gives 50%, Pickups about 25% and guitar wood/shape/style about 25%.
Personal style outweighing them all, of course.

^In my opinion, so does playing itself.

Yep, I'd say the most important thing was a guitar that facilitated your playing. After that start woring about tone.

Well playing contributes to your SOUND, not your tone. Anyone can pick up your guitar and get the same tone out of it, but no one will ever have the exact same sound.

Guys how about you start another thread about tone and argue in there, leave this one to the TS.

And TS yeah we'll need to know what gear you have and how much you want to spend. If you want advice on what gear in particular then we need your taste in music and what the amp/guitar is going to be used for too.

Well, if you have a higher end amp that suits you pretty well, get a new guitar. If your guitar suits you fine and your amp need to be upgraded, get a new amp. If they're both not very good, go with the new amp, first. It gives you most of your tone.

YEA SERIOUSLY, for all we know you could have a Mesa Half stack and a Gibson SG [or Marshall/Fender], how can well tell what needs upgrading without info???????

And they type of music you like will help as well.

We need what you have now and your budget, but most of the people in here hit the nail on the head. If you're guitar is playable, go amp, but if your guitar is so bad that you can barely even use it, then go guitar.
