I'm doing some guitar stuff for a friend and he wants it to be ninja themed... Does anyone know what scale would be good to use for this?
#2
Maybe go for something Eastern like the Japanese Hirjoshi?
#3

Hmm judging from your pic you'd fit in more with a fat busted tribute.

Plain old pentatonic can sound very ninja...ish. Do a lot of fourths on the B and high E string.

I hope that we could get some real metal out there. I guess A7X a start...
But nu metal does have its moments like Slipknot Mushroomhead and Korn.

E|---12---12-12---10---10---7---7---10-------
B|---12---12-12---10---10---7---7---10-------
1 2 + 3 4 1 2 3 4

Play that a lot. I think it's right. I'm at work, and don't have a guitar near me.

The Japanese scale is one of my faves

intervals in semitones:
1 4 2 1 4

so A japanese would be:
A Bb D E F A

Ahahahaha

That made my day. On the topic of ninja scales, I would say try exoctic sounding foreign scales or something...

Okay, not exoctic but yeah...

lol, a ninja scale, can I have a pirate scale while we're at it?

Besides, jokes aside, "ninja" music can be anything from a sneaky shadow in the night to all-out inyourface wtfpwnbbq bloodbath, and there certainly isn't a single scale that is going to convey "ninjaness" in some way better than other scales.

Pentatonic scales when properly phrased pull off the "steriotype" Asian sound. It's common in a lot of their folk songs and things of that nature.
#21
The thing about old japanese scales is they did not use the western system of classifying pitches. In the western scale we have 12 semitones where as in some countries in the far east they have 17 or even 24 semitones, also known as quartertones.
