Ok so I have to do a project about the effects of music on people. More importantly, young people (12-25 year olds). I've been doing doing some research and there are alot of groups that find satanic messages/absurd ideas in a lot of songs, even in Stairway to Heaven lol. Anyway, would you say the music you listen to affects:

The way you dress

The way you talk to others

The way you handle problems (violently vs. non-violently)

Your religious decisions (Whether or not to worship a God )

Your political ideas

Your treatment of other races/creeds/sexual preferences/women/men etc.

Edit: The use of drugs/alcohol

Just to name a few. I personally think that music is not responsible for people's actions, unless they have a mental disability or an unstable house/living situation. (I.E. No one brings a gun to school because some heavy metal band told them to.)
Any help would be great, I just want to get input from other rock n roll inthusiasts, and their ideas.

Well I guess I do dress a bit grungy sometimes... other than that it doesn't affect me much

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools

The way you dress - no. Band T-shirts, but the way I dress is just me trying to be...me.

The way you talk to others - not really. I guess maybe an occasional phrase or something will get stuck in my vocabulary for a little, but it goes away.

The way you handle problems (violently vs. non-violently) - I handle problems non-violently. I dont think music inspired me to do that, or continue doing that, or try to persuade me at all.

Your religious decisions (Whether or not to worship a God ) - somewhat, actually. Some songs were kind of inspiring for me to try and find my religion again.

Your political ideas - no. I find bands who may agree with my political views, but a band has never changed mine (maybe opened my eyes to something for me to pick a view on though)

Your treatment of other races/creeds/sexual preferences/women/men etc. - see above. from a political standpoint, there are bands who share the same beliefs I already have on how to treat others.

hah

Also one thing I forgot

Does Music persuade you to use drugs/alchohol? I've been looking around many parents back in the 60's/70's blamed many bands for "teaching" their kids to do drugs.

Feel free to add your own ideas.

Ok next question,

On a scale of one to ten (ten being highest), how much does music play a role in your life?

How many hours a day do you listen, what genres?

The only advantage of home-schooling is that it gives you good reason to commit suicide.

Hit this once or twice, and you'll be twice as nice.

Next year I'm going to be a music major in college, for music education.
So I can literally say music is my life.

How many hours?

Well a little less than an hour before and after school (ride to and back, and while getting ready)
From about 3-5 I listened to music
from probably 6-...I'm guessing 8 or 9 ish I'm playing guitar (practicing, auditions coming up tomorrow. with small breaks to post here of course)
Which is pretty usual. either playing or listening to.

Then probably again from about 10-11 or so listeing to more music while talking to people and playing video games/homework.

as for genres..... I think alot of people will agree that they listen to a very wide variety of music.

Major genres are hard rock, punk, shred, blues, glam rock, classical (I love Anton Dvorak ) folk, techno... you get the drift.

What stereotypes do you think have been used against people that listen to rock music?

That we all smoke pot, get drunk, and have sex alot.....(I'm straight edge)

That by listening to "rock" we really listen to "death metal shit *immitation of screaming usually saying something like "god hates you" or "kill kill kill" becuase you know...thas all any metal song is about*

(I get both of those alot)
