agreed

in my opinion the melody maker is just marketing...you get a pretty crappy guitar only because it says "GIBSON" on it while you could get a way better one that says EPIPHONE....

id go with epi...

Melody Makers have sex appeal and if Gibson continues with their current price setting policy of:

(last years price) [1+ (Inflation Rate*6)/100]= New price

then the melody maker will cost like, a bazillion dollars in a few short years and you'll be able to sell yours for two thirds of a bazillion dollars. Seriously, the melody maker will hold its value better than the epi. I also like single coils more than humbuckers and nitro smells good.
edit: I hope I remembered my pemdas...

Gibsons will always hold their price better than epiphones. However, what's more important is that you play both guitars, and pick the one you like better.

Melody makers suck no matter what is written on the headstock.

I'd say look at Dean Cadillacs, Washburn Idol series, and Ibanez ARCs before you decide on the Epi, though.

The new Melody Maker feels like a cheap piece of rubbish. Despite having no justifiable reason...it still sounds good. I mean, it felt like I was playing a toy...a toy with bite. If you can deal with how it feels, then go for it.

The p90's sound awesome man, they're what makes the guitar part decent.

I'm looking for a melody maker, but until then: What do you guys who have tried it think about it?

I've played many, they feel like toys, not guitars.

I thought that if it had 'Epiphone' on the headstock it'd cost $200.
