i think i got how chords are formed

with a Cmajor the root note is a C and it has a 3rd and a 5th

is that rite?

Not really. Normal major chords are just the root, 3rd, and 5th. However, if you wanted to add the 7th, then it would become a major 7 chord. What he has is a regular major chord.
