I am quite interested in making guitar effects pedals. The reasons:

1.)I want to know how pedals work so i can fix them if they break or mod them to make them better.

2.)I want to be able to make the pedals and them sell them to people.

3.)It's just cool to know how things work

If anyone can help me by finding websites to help with things from learning about assembling, to parts. I would greatly appreciate it. Also if there are any people out there i would like to know if this is something a person with good common sense can do. Thanks Ug.

Check back tomorrow if nobody gets to you sooner, my brother has an AWESOME site fr schematics and construction methods for pedals, amps, and all other guitar-related stuff.

We recently made a nice (not pro exactly, but can't complain) crybaby, general distortion, and a couple of small, portable battery-run amps using it.

will get you that kink tomorrow if nobody beats me to it.

well hey i don't even know anything really at all. So if you could help from the beginng i would apreciate that.

Well, from first-hand experience, buy more mats than you will actually need. You are going to burn some stuff, or get your board the wrong size for the enclosure, tthings like that.

Go check out a DS-1 distortion pedal, that's about the size enclosure you are going to want for dingle'effect pedals. Also think of if you want them to be switch-pedals (push and it changes, push again to get back) or something more (analog? active?) that changes the tone the more you push the pedal down, then pops back up and you are back at where you were before the pedal kicked in.

Those kinds of things you can start thinking about now, drawing up ideas for enclosures and such before you even buy your first chip, transistor or capacitor.

When building your own, how big or small the box ends up being is entirely up to you. Keep that in mind.

Assembling one is easy. Understanding and designing them takes alot of time and dedication.
We can not possibly come close to telling you how to make guitar pedals in one thread. Read read read, build build build, that's all there is to it.
Check the stickies on where to get started.

^Definately what he said. Any monkey can look at a schematic and solder some transistors to some resistors, have it work, call them their own design, and try to make money off of them, but it takes a lot more to actually understand what is happening, and to be able to design a pedal from scratch. A LOT more.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

You normally just buy pre-fab enclosures
