I need to replace the pickups in my Squier Strat and I don't know which ones to get. I've looked at the Fender Hot Noiseless pickup set and the Seymour Duncan California 50's SSL-1's. Does anyone have any experience these and/or recommend some other pickups?

One more thing: I've got about $150 to spend.

i put a set of texas specials in my squire strat that i was impressed with, it ended up sounding pretty good for, you know, a squire. those fender noiseless pickups and anything by seymour duncan usually gets pretty good props although i haven't used them. also check out swineshead pickups, they are supposed to be excellent and their site has a lot of audio samples.

Go GFS!

you'll save a bunch. you can still afford after the pickups a new trem and tuners.

I thought about GFS, but will they sound as sweet as a set of Seymour Duncans? Cheap, yes, but the quality seems... iffy. I'm looking for something that sounds warm and vintage-y, nothing too hot.

dude, go with gfs, theyre awesome, the quality is there, and they have really nice vintage replica type stuff. i dropped a set of their vintage alinco staggers in my strat and the difference was night and day, they sound amazing.

oh, and the best part is, they're cheap

Indeed I have GFS' Premium Alnico Staggers set on my MIM strat, VERY bright and vintage-y, a bit brighter than I would like but they are very nice and a lot better than my Strat's stock pups...

Whuhhh?!?!?!?!??!? It's pretty much unanimous according to every review ever written about their products that their quality is some of the best.

The quality is there, trust me.

So you're saying that a $50 set of GFS pickups will sound just as good if not better than a $135 set of Seymour Duncans?
