I'm looking for a preamp with good distortion for mainly metal and hard rock (metallica, ac/dc,...) .
I was after a mesa boogie studio preamp but then I saw the carvin quad-x and they had the same price. So wich one is the best, give me your opinions.
Thanks.

Have you tried the Mesa TriAxis? That is a very versitile preamp.

Thanks for pointing that out! I looked the carvin up on harmony central, and the price listed was between $200 and $569. Definately can't get a TriAxis for that. Sorry to have posted something priced way off base.
