Triggering is putting a sensor-type-thing on the drum head that senses when you strike the skin and send an electric signal to the trigger system's central unit, which plays up a pre-recorded sound, this simply means that you get a consistant sound from the drums without having the troubles of soundchecking every gig, not to mention the fact that it's impossible (damn near impossible anyway) to get two kicks tuned to the exact same pitch. The only thing it does is play those pre-recorded sounds which you may critisize for making it sound like a drum-machine, but it doesn't make you faster.
