I just went to the pawn shop for fun, and found something I really liked.
A Dean Explosion Razorback. $400. The only catch was, it was missing pickups.
Lucky for me, my friend gave me his old set of HZ's, so, im excited.
I was thinking about repainting it, but i wondered.

How do you remove a set-neck for a sanding/refinish?

I think the idea of refinishing a set neck or neck through is that you dont remove the neck.

Thats why pros usually charge more for a set neck refinish.

Un gluing it and resetting it at the right angle will be more hassle than masking of the fretboard and refinishing the whole thing

You're very lucky. hows the guitar? You shouldn't remove the neck. You must mask the fretboard and then paint it. But first remove the paint. show some fotos and how are you going to paint?

Im not even sure if I am. I might not. It looks cool. I was jsut wondering how you would do it. Makes sense not to remove it.

Yepp you can get steals at the pawnshoops, or you can get realllllly ripped off. A lot of the stuff have warped necks and all, also they might have been stolen as well :P

I love it too. I picked up a Peavey Falcon, MIA (USA, that is), With a KAHLER tremolo unit (missing some fine tuners and part of the locking nut, though), came with 2 piece body with kickass looking wood, a fine sunburst finish, and a fairly nice neck. Mind you, it was covered in stickers, and needs a refret and has some chips, but for $100, I'm not complaining.

I have a thread where I took the stickers off.

yea, as ive spent more time with it, ive noticed more little imperfections, but nothing major.
Ill have to see if i can borrow a camera to show it off.
And 400 USD is good, considering its like 1500 on MF.

I went to something like 10 pawn shops over the weekend, and I don't think I saw a single name-brand guitar.
#15
its totally pure luck. And it depends on the ratio of meth-heads/druggies-in-general to the number of stealable guitars.

I live in the ghetto and there are many pawnshops and all the guitars i see are total junk. I have see a couple of good guitars but the neck pocket was cracked. Not small cracks, big cracks.

Not really.

People have to pawn shit to get by sometimes. Not everyone can get their stuff out.

I bought a 5150 full stack from a pawn shop, that's a pretty ****in big heist.

Hell, we have a pawn shop dedicated to music gear in Vancouver WA

Not to mention most of the thieving people aren't drug addicts...

Meth heads are after jewelry, cash and stereos, not a cumbersome guitar they know nothing about =P

Nice on the find, tho. I almost snagged a $900 PRS at the pawn shop the other day but I couldn't bring myself to do it

We can't get ****all decent stuff at pawn shops here. Either no name crap or overpriced Gibsons and Fenders.

There's one that's been in the shop for ages, it's a Gibson SG but it has a single coil in the neck. They have $3000 on it and it looks like a heap of shit. I always go in to see if it's been put down but it never has.
#21
we got no pawn shops here, and i'd steal guitars and sell them to pawn shops for drugs

LOOOOOOOOL

No pawn shops by me, i picked up 2 pawnshop prizes on my vacation roadtrip to louisiana and back.

Arkansas or Oklahoma or one of those states I picked up a Vintage KAY guitar, and I'm gonna make a retrofit neck i think, and fix its old electronics.

I know that there are lots of pawnshops here but I am almost sure that I would only found classical guitars, and I already have one so....
