Whats a good prog rock band that sounds like Pink Floyd?

you know...synths, sounds, compositions, not singles, but still rock, with blues influences, not like metal or punk or that stuff.

my friend told me to listen to Mars Volta, are they worth buying an album?

From the few single songs I've heard from them it sounds ok, but his high voice makes me cringe up.

Australian Floyd?

well, in terms of innovation maybe Tool, ive heard there live shows run relatively along the same lines, and ive heard about coldplay being alike but i exteremly doubt that

I like Mars Volta, not as much as I used to, but I still like em alot. Buy Deloused in the Comatorium, then if you like that, check Tremulant or Frances the Mute. Not a huge fan of the newest album, amputechture. I like Cedrics high vocals, although they take a while to get used to, but with some time I also got used to Angelas vocals in Arch Enemy, so it could just be me.
Yeah Dimebag is not the "Greatest Guitarist" of all time... Hendrix maybe... I must go get food to eat with my mouth

$250 for an amp? wow. is it worth it to invest that much in the amp?

Ayreon

they have very similar synths.
Ayreon is metal though, your loss if that deters you

I think you would like the album "In the Court of the Crimson King" by King Crimson if you like floyd. Check them out. Most the songs are laid back and spacy.

yea, i looked up a few bands up there and wikipedia has them down as prog-metal

that mean there a little heavy sounding?
#11
It really depends on the album, red is their heavier stuff. There is also some jazz and its a big mishmash, every album is a surprise with them.

Edit: i mean Red, the album, is their heavier side.

No one really sounds like them, and if someone does, Floyd are probably better anyways.

aiite thanks for the suggestions

im gunna def check these out

by the way... anyone know if "Explosions in the Sky" is any good?
#17
definetly check out Tool. they're sound is heavier and more modern, but they definetly nailed the same level of intelligence in their music that floyd did. Tool is like Pink Floyd on unthinkable amounts of steroids. definetly check em out

Nobody, really. You can't sound like Floyd without Gilmour...and nobody has Gilmour.

On that note, I vote you get Gilmour's solo stuff. His self-titled is incredible, as is his new album On An Island.

He is God.

Explosions In The Sky are good. Very good. In reference to post earlier.

As for sounding like Floyd...I guess some Secret Machines stuff does. Some Mars Volta.

But, as said, nothing truly sounds like Floyd, and even if there is something similar, Floyd are most probably 100x better.

On a side note, if you ever get the chance, see the Australian Pink Floyd. You will not be disappointed.
