Just looking for a relatively cheap preamp for under $100. my setup will be


Guitar > Preamp > Firewire Interface > PC

another question - would i be better off just getting an active d/i box instead of a preamp?

LOL! you wont get jack shit for 100$....but if spend some dough get the Line6 PODxt
Its great, you can download artist tones and se them or on your pc create your own tones using amp models. They have everything from Marshalls to Mesa's and thensome. I think it comes with 121 amp models built right into it. Its a little tricky to use at first but once you get the hang of it is amazing.

You can use a little mixer and tap off the inserts. You can get something like the M-Audio Audio Buddy. These kinds of preamps are going to noisy.

A DI wont' help you with microphones.

They have everything from Marshalls to Mesa's and thensome. I think it comes with 121 amp models built right into it.

Oh man! I dumped all that money on a Royer R121 and all I had to do was buy some direct toy...I'm sure it sounds great!! (sarcasm).
