What is the difference between maple and rosewood fretboards? I was just wondering why people have preferences to certain ones and what the advantages and disadvantages are to each one.
Maple is more snappy sounding and rosewood is a little softer and warmer.

Rosewood accentuates the mids, whereas maple has a slight dip in the mids, and more treble and bass.

Of course, the overall tone depends on the body tonewood as well. On my guitar, the body and neck are both maple, so I decided to get rosewood because the tone was overly twangy.
Every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you
Theres also the preference of feel. For example I've compared rosewood and ebony before and rosewoods way comfyer in my opinion (but then i've bin used to rosewood since I started)
