Well, after seeing a lot of "greatest guitarist" lists I started thinking that we could make a much better list than most of them. So, being the nerd that I am, I wrote a computer program.

Here's the concept:

Write down your top 10 guitarists list

No capital Letters
Make sure you spell correctly
No comments, numbers, anything but the name

You can comment after your list if you wish, just not in the list.

For example, here's my list

jimmy page
jimi hendrix
tony iommi
joe satriani
jerry cantrell
slash
david gilmour
neil young
chuck berry
stevie ray vaughan

Then my program will add up the number of time each guitarist appears and order them appropriately.

If this goes well then I'll try to update the list as often as I can.

Jason Becker
Paul Gilbert
Chris Broderick
Mike Campese
Yngwie Malmsteen
Muhammed Suicmez
Karl Sanders
Michael Romeo

And yes, I like my capitals.

im so sick of theses lists, jimmy page is always at the top no matter what. why do we make them if theyr all the same.

Jimi Hendrix is always at the top. Jimmy Page is usually in the top 5 though.

just add kurt cobain to the list, he can shred when people is not listening

Yea, kurt cobain is the best shredder in my opinion. Have you guys heard Smells Like Teen Spirit Solo. He can really shred.

Some of you seem to fail to comprehend the concept of no capital letters/comments in the lists. Follow the rules, please.

question for the thread starter, is this list about who can play the most outstanding pieces e.g. Steve Vai, or guitarists that keep it simple but sound great like Angus Young?

To change this crappy thread topic up, why not make a UG's Greatest Guitarist list, as in the ones that are on UG? Stupid kids.

PS Your list sucks, threadstarter. Everyone there is a household name, but that doesnt mean they are great.
