I have an Ibanez GSR200 Lefty (Agathis)
Would it be better to throw EMG's in it or buy a YAMAHA RBX270L (Alder body, passive, discontinued model)? Please don't post if you are just going to bash Agathis, Ibanez or YAMAHA. I play metal, and the YAMAHA is like 350 CDN.

emg'll give you some BrUtAl mEtAlz

although, there are better pickups for the money, but not having any hum is nice, worth the trouble and money of an active system really.

So I'm better off with putting emgs in the AGATHIS IBANEZ than buying the ALDER YAMAHA?

What would happen if I did? What sound would come out? Am I better off trading it in for the YAMAHA?

what i have read before is that the emgs dont rely so much on what the wood is like for sound. whether or not that is true im not sure. but i do know that if you are wanted to spend money and invest in parts for a guitar. than why not put them on a better guitar?

but in your situation i would say stick with the ibanez and throw the emgs in.

My plywood xRASPUTINx sounds fine with EMGs. The wood really doesn't make THAT much difference once you're cranking such high output pickups. I'd say chuck the EMGs in your Ibanez.

EDIT: Oh and you can always swap them into a better guitar when you get one.

getting the emgs for the ibanez probably isnt that bad of an idea, if you get a new guitar you can always take the emgs out and put them in your new guitar. and i dont suppose you could stop typing YAMAHA, Yamaha or yamaha would suffice, all caps are the most irritating thing ever in forums

i was thinking of putting some EMGS in my ibanez but i might just get some Dimarzio's. <-- i spell that right? i forget :s
#14
OK thanks. Yes you spelt DImarzio right. I've never heard them on a bass. Are they any good? Thanks for the advice. I'll stick with the Ibanez.

Yeah, I'd stick with your Ibanez. I've been thinking of upgrading my ESP's EMGs to active ones. It currently has HZs in it and I was thinking about putting 81s in.
