Never played the first one, but I have a DXMG and I like it, though it doesn't get played as much as my SG now that I put EMGs in it.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

MG series... one series down from the pro series (DK2M is a pro-series).

EMGs are toneless, lifeless, horrible pickups.

Made from basswood... one step up from agathis... simply put: bad.

Looks better.

Pro series.

Seymour Duncan JB/59 are great pickups. If you need more "metal", replace the JB in the bridge with a Duncan Distortion or another one of your favorite pickups that don't suck. JB is still a very capable metal pickup though.

Made from Alder, a high quality wood with a bright resonance and snappy sound to it.

I have one.
Comes down to maple vs rosewood and seymours vs. EMG-hzs.

Personally I'd go with the DXMG (biased, I own one) because I am not a fan of maple fretboards, but I must admit the pickups are shitty, but the pickups in the DK2M are great.

Edit: To the above, the MG series is on par with the pro series. It's built in the same factory, and MGs are just pros with emgs. + basswood is a good wood, it's used in Ibanez Universes ffs.
My favorite SD pickups probably the Full Shred. I also hate EMGs.
