you'd probably get his sound best with a singlecoil, ur strat copy if necessary. the bluesbreaker should be useful, don't pile on the gain tho.
#3
im not using strat copy lol.. in the stages of modding it... kinda has no pickups in it

im sure YJM has uber reverb and some delay whaked in there..

can anyone tell amp settings... effects etc?

Yngwie has his own DOD preamp for a boost, and about 20 marshall stacks. He has a very stratty tone. I think the single coils are the main element. The tone is submerged into reverb to make it sound huge and distant (like Eric Johnson).

what is a DOD?

Of coruse thats his tone... but i must be able to get somewhere near his tone? it soudns liek he has lots of reverb though..

a DOD is a pedal brand which makes his custom Boost pedal.

I say turn the tone to 10, use the neck pickup, or neck/middle together. On your amp, add some mids, but not too many. Keep the bass and treble under control. Make sure it's clear, but not too bright. Start with all knobs at 12 o'clock and work your way from there.

ya gotta think vintage man. i tihnk your amp is all tube? if so, krank it a bit, get a nice think gain on it, but not too much. EQ wise, i'd imagine the mids are higher up, back the treble off a bit and the bass keep mid to high. go with single coil neck. don't use anything modelling though.

Malmsteen doesn't use single coils.

Why do you think he has a signature strat loaded with signature single coils?
Why are 99% of all his guitars vintage strats?

See any humbuckers?

I'm pretty sure his are NOT stacked humbuckers...

I think he uses single coils.

and I believe the middle pickup is actually stock

found one where he uses humbuckers xD

I saw an interview of him where he buys a strat (on the hard n' heavy dvd)
and for the tone, every amp is different, try to close your eyes and find a tone you like, you'll be amazed somethimes (and write the settings down on paper).
and maybe try what the others said above me

but I'm a bassplayer, don't know much about guitar (I played it for a while)

He used to use Dimarzio HS3s in bridge/neck position, and the middle pickup is stock because he never uses it. The middle pickup is also completely recessed into the body.

His signature guitar has YJM/YJM/HS3.

He also scoops his mids -- like 5/2/6 bass/mid/treble settings.

EDIT: Just check out this website

the website says

The modifications Yngwie carries out to his guitars are as follows:

* Scalloped Fingerboard (see image below).
* Refret with Dunlop 6000 (Super Jumbo) size fret wire.
* DiMarzio HS-3 pickup in the bridge position.
* DiMarzio YJM in the neck position.
* Brass Nut.
* Disconnect the tone controls.
* Apply multiple Ferrari stickers.

These modifications (apart from the disconnected tone controls) come as standard on the Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Stratocaster.

... disconnected tone controls?
As in... they are there, but dont do anything?

The tone controls are probably disconnected so that he doesn't actually turn the tone down instead of the volume (he always has the tone on full anyways) while he's playing live.
