Both solos are great, but the second is definately the best of the two. The best version is the version off Pulse; it's simply amazing.

ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man : Just great all around solo.

Too many to call.

Edit:
Free bird isn't a solo. There's two guitarists playing it. Isn't that a duet?

Technically, you're right. But I'd just call it a solo duet.

I have more than a few favorites for different reasons, but I will list them.

Jason Becker - Altitudes

White Lion - Wait

Ozzy - Mr Crowley(well, most of rr's solos)

Vinnie Vincent - most of his solos are amazing, but Back on the Streets blows my mind.

Dokken - Dream Warriors, In my Dreams. George Lynch was probably the guitarist I looked up to the most. Any solo he does I love basically.

Cinderella - Nobody's Fool. Probably the easiest solo to play on my list, but sounds amazing. He plays with emotion, which is something most rock/metal guitarists today seem to lack.

Yeah, this list shows my age. But I stand by those picks. Each one of those solos means something special to me. Even though the songs may be old and cheesy to most of you, I would suggest listening to them. The solo work is quite outstanding.
"I can play pretty fast on an instrument and I can do some pretty dazzling things if I want, but that only goes so far. You know, that's only going to interest people to a certain degree, it only has a certain stimulation." ~Steve Vai~

In my opinion, the best guitar solo is:
The one that affects you the most, evokes a reaction, and motivates you to play more.
"Eruption" is a really kick ass solo, but is it the best? Not to me. I've heard a million other variations..*yawn*...next....
But for someone else, "Eruption" stirs something in them...maybe the tremolo picking part, maybe the tapping part (who DOESN'T like that!!). Whatever it is that makes you close your eyes or scrunch up your face or play air guitar and look silly...that's the best guitar solo.

My favorite is Like a Stone by Audioslave, it just fits so well in the song. Another bad ass solo is in One Blood by Terence Jay(the song from Green Street Hooligans.)
My Rig:
Epiphone Les Paul Custom - Alpine White
Vox AD30VT
Epiphone SG Special - Black
Planet Waves Cables
Levy's Strap

True, but too bad you didn't be a smart ass for Hotel California - Eagles and The Cowboy Song - Thin Lizzy too, cause they are also duets strictly speaking.

Even if he played the bongos? That would be the best guitar solo ever?
