so today my teacher told me im doing a performance for a senior citizens concert next tuesday

and shes like "so what are u gunna play" and im like "...................................................................................................ummm"
and shes like "well how about that blues song you are learning for class"
and im like "................................................................ummmmm"

she thinks i should play the unplugged version of Before You Accuse me - Eric Clapton. but i havnt practiced that much.

but i was thinking i could play Nothing Else Matters - Metallica. it sounds good, not metal, i can play it perfectly.
but then i was thinking maybe they wouldnt like that, so i was thinking maybe classical gas? i havnt learnt the end of it but it should be a breeze considering i can play the rest of the song.

but to tell the truth i have no idea. i need ure help, what do i play!?!?!?!?!

thanks guys n gals

Play something upbeat. Niel Young is great for those in their 50s. For older people, Elvis and other upbeat classics will do it. Don't play Nothing Else Matters or Classical Gas (I haven't heard the other one).

just so yall know, Before You Accuse me is a blues song..... and gotta remember im playing by myself, no drums or another guitar (and i refuse to sing) so it cant be just chords

No vocals eh? You're probably not going to attract their attention. (Sorry, but senior citizens tend to not be interested in solo guitar pieces.)

I guess if Before You Accuse is bluesy then it should at least be better than the other two choices.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned cannibal corpse.. soo.

ok, seriously, I strongly encourage you to sing/get a singer. Seniors don't really enjoy normal guitar soloing stuff, trust me, I've done that. Know what's easy, Pretty Woman is a cool upbeat song with a damn good riff.

Good luck

its not really about attracting attention or being the best lol they are old aussies, they rnt gunna hate me or think im crap, they will tell me it was wonderful if it was good or bad... its just giving them entertainment... i spose ur right, i dont think they would like a single guitar.......maybe i should smile and look pretty

i think i will try and get out of it instead lol

Learn American Pie, fairly easy to sing and not too hard to play. Or like someone else said, Neil Young is perfect. Plus you don't have to have a great voice for that, just something simple and they can tap their foot to it.

Just make up some blues.
the ones that can still hear will probably just be happy to be getting out of the house for something, and the rest will either be too senile or drugged up to care.
the system works.

My grandfather is a jazz fanatic,so i'll say jazz.

Haha, not all old peopel are the same. I'm sure my grandad would much rather have listened to The Pogues than any jazz.

"Long Train Running" by The Doobie Brothers

There is no need to say anymore besides that I've heard many oldies say that this is the best song written in their lifetime.

Before You Accuse me, as in Robert Johnson? Do that.

I don't think that's Robert Johnson...

I definately wouldn't play Nothing Else Matters... They'd probably hate it...

Most people on UG are teenage boys who think that the only way they can assert their 'dominancy' is by making others feel low and bossing them around. More than likely in real life they are subject to bullying.
True?

"Before You Accuse Me" is clearly the best choice of those three. "Classical Gas" is cool, but doesn't make for much of a solo show.
