What's some fairly simple Drop D songs(modern songs, no older stuff like Metallica, Pantera, or anything like that)? I only know 2 and need to know more. I know System of a Down - Aerials and Godsmack - Awake. I prefer heavy stuff, nothing real slow. My favorite bands are Skillet, Killswitch Engage, and Mushroomhand to show you what I like. Thanks

I dunno if you like any of this but:

Three Days Grace (The band) (They play everything in Drop D and C)
Nickelback - Animals (Cool song)

(And just for your info, Aerials is actually played in drop C. So if you're gonna play it with the actual recording, you're gonna wanna tune down.)

Dying in your arms - Trivium.
Rhythm guitar's so damn easy in that song

All killswitch engage stuff is in drop c, try learning the rhythm guitar to the end of heartache, if you tune down that is, and then give Hope Is a go. The riff is so much fun to play.

Most of Creed is in drop D and fairly simple. Illusion is a good one because it has a nice little solo in the middle that is fun to play.

Thanks so much guys! There's some good songs here I didn't even think about trying.

Cheese_weasel, I don't know how to get into drop C, I would do it if I could.

Jon, Thanks for the ideas. I know Aerials is in Drop C, but it also doesn't sound bad in Drop D.

Keep them coming if posible.

Pretty much all of Avenged Sevenfold's stuff. Bat Country is pretty easy, and fun to play.

Avenged Sevenfold - Unholy Confessions

for a begginer that might be hard. i can do it. but the going between the two strings quickly is tricky, and so is doing the hammer ons and pull offs quickly. but with a little practice its pretty easy

Slayer, Kreator, Cannibal Corpse, Gwar, and like.. all the other death metal bands out there.

Is there such a thing as a heavy riff with out chugging on the e string?
#21
pretty much most of "Numetal" type stuff.

Unholy Confessions - Avenged Sevenfold
Idiot Box - Shadows Fall

both pretty easy songs

Marylin Manson's "The Beautiful People" is very easy, and it sounds awesome!

Depending on what kinda music you like, The Early November's First Two albums were in drop D, and Brand New's first album My Favorite Weapon had a lot of easy drop D songs

i seriously dont recoment tuning by ear till you been playing for 2-3 months with semi regular play. (meaning at least 12 hours a week). if you havent been playing that long seriously buy a tuner. (Your neighbors and family will thank you and not want to smash your guitar to little bits.) By the way if you want to know how this is how to do it from standard tuning. low to high eADGBE, in unnecesarly detail.
use the 7th low e string and tune it down till it is equal with the A. Now your are tuned in dADGBE,
now use the 5th fret of what is now the d string. tune the A sting down till the tones match
you should now have dgDGBe
repeat the process just move down one string for the D and G so now you should have DGCFBE,
now use the fourth fret of the what is now the f string, and tune the b string to match it.
now you have DGCFAE
use the 5th fret, of the A string, and tune it down to dGCFAD
now finally take the 7th fret of what is the d string and tune it down to match the G string
Final tuning cGCFAD
as for songs for you guys to learn i recomend playing in standard tuning first it makes learning where all of the notes easier and make allot more sense. but since you are chosing this as your tunning i reccomend "new level" pantera, or suicide messaih "black label society", or just play system of a down till you want more of a challenge. Do not try the solos for the songs i recomended, for a while it will make you want to kill yourselves. dont just play to get good. pm me if you want anymore help

hows about walk by pantera

R.I.P. Frank Zappa R.I.P. Hideto Matsumoto and nowR.I.P. Rick Wright

I was just about to point out that Black Sabbath is in Standard, or C#, depending on the album. I think Master of Reality and on was C#; everything else before that was standard.

I realize how old this thread is, but Cannibal Corpse only play in 1/2 step down or 7 string 1/2 step down.

a lot of rage against the machine is in drop D

killing in the name is one that pops into mind
A good friend will bail you out of jail

A true friend will be sitting beside you saying ''man, we fucked up but we had it goooood"
