Im trying to learn how to do "american pie", but i have no clue how to do or read this. I kinda know how to read the chords, but how do you know how to strum or anything? Im going by this version of the song:

any help would be apreciated.

You have to listen to the song and hear the strumming.

The tab cant really help you with that. You have to figure it out yourself.

ok, one more thing. what does the "o" mean in the chords?

edit:
ok i guess it means open.. but if thats so then what about the strings that dont have anything at all in them? if i dont strum them too it sounds wierd.

I'd just like to input that I HATE tabs like that. I really don't know why but i do.

As to your question I believe you strum only the strings w/ a fret number. If it sounds wierd to you screw the TAB guy and do it your way(sometimes doing this you can find your own way of doing it or find out where the TAB is wrong in some cases). At least thats what I do
