Well, I bought a pedalboard last week, hooked everything up, and started playing. Problem was, now with all my effects in line and everything hooked up, my amp's (Crate 65 watt something...I don't remember the model) two distortion channels (lead and rhythm) are ridiculously noisy (like, almost unbearable). Sooo, I have decided that I'd like to get an overdrive or distortion pedal of some sort. Yeah, a noise gate or something might help, but I'm starting to get a little tired of my amp's distortion anyway (the lead is noisy and thick, and the rhythm is very thin).

I borrowed my friend's Boss DS-1 and liked it, though I don't think I could get a thick enough sound for some things I play. I played a Big Muff in Guitar Center and really liked that, as well as a Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion which I also really liked. A friend of mine has a Jekyll and Hyde Distortion/Overdrive that he said he might sell to me for a good price, and that seems like a good pedal with a lot of different options. So basically, I'm stuck, and could use a few more opinions.

I play a lot of Classic Rock, especially Pink Floyd, but including Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Yes, the James Gang and Joe Walsh. I also love to play Black Crowes stuff (mmm open tunings ).

Step 1: Buy a Gibson SG
Step 2: Insert Green Ringer, EQ, 3 dead squirrels and a microwave into said SG
Step 3: Plug in and freak the **** out.

I love my muff, havent really played many other distortion/overdrive pedals so cant give much advice.

DOD 250, analogman modded if you can afford it. if not, you can easily do the mod yourself.

EDIT: mine is extremely quiet, even on full gain and volume.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

i own the os-2 you were talking about
and i was really happy i got it instead of a simple dist OR overdrive pedal

not that only dist or overdrive doesnt sound great but i mostly play with a mix between the two
and it sounds really good

^^right. I mean, it might sound picky, but my only problem with that is if I want different sounds in one song, I'd have to turn the little knob, whereas with the J&H, it's a push of a button with your foot.

i like the ds1 for low gain classic rock.
well, I'm not exactly looking for just low gain here...

i didnt know you could switch between overdrive and distortion on the jekyll & hyde...
that might be the problem

what would you be able to get the J&H for?

$70-80ish. Though I'm not positive if he is going to sell it or not. If I can't get it from him, do I just go for it and spend the extra money and get a new J&H?

Cause like, for the price of a J&H (or even less), I can get a DS-1 and a Big Muff

Alright, it seems like I'm leaning towards the J&H right now. I would just love to find it for a little bit cheaper then what it's listed as ($140).
