when it comes to music, i'm not a complete and total 100% sissy, but i don't know any REAL hardcore or metalcore bands ... i know it sounds stupid that i don't know any, but it's not like i'm gonna go ask MTV ...

i listen to Rise Against (i love them, and i don't care why you hate them) but i've been longing for something harder and heavier.

could someone PLEASE tell me some of these bands???

Hardcore and metalcore? Rise Against (i like them too) but their pretty far away from that, or at least the new album. Try As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Lamb of God....basically, go to the metal forum and their's this list of bands you're not allowed to discuss, check out those haha.
Who dat?

Is there such a thing as a heavy riff with out chugging on the e string?

Killswitch Engage - They have some singing, so if you're not really into all out screaming yet, they might be good for you to listen to.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Add Harder the Fight and Guns Up! to this list, and it's absolutely perfect.

First of all, I enjoy deathcore for it's complexity and it's the only genre heavy enough for me

I want an amp good for playing hippie tunes. I want it to be an actual amp, not a tube amp.

Try out some basic bands that aren't as lame as lamb of god and trivium, trust me it'll save you a hell of alot of embaresment down the track when you realise how shit they really are, listen to disco and ignore everyone above him.

Everyone Luke said but add Death By Stereo and you're good to go.

um...real haredcore...like black flag, circle jerks, bad brains, minor threat and the adolescents

Rancid are the best punk band ever.

Tim Armstrong is a songwriting genius, is a complete fashion diva and has an incredible singing voice.

He doesn't sound like Opie from family guy at all.

Nothing wrong with liking Rise Against imo. If you dig them then you'd probably like more melodic bands like Ignite, Ambitions, Set Your Goals, Shook Ones, Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, etc
Quote by JobForACowboy
um, yes it is.

sry if you havent heard of it, death metal bands that wear girl jeans = emodeath

I was agreeing with you.

What Luke said was awesome, but FAR too big a list when looking for a few bands.

I'll brief up my own list for you.

Hardcore Punk

International Affairs
Champion
Wake Up Call
Betrayed
Harder The Fight
Down To Nothing
Sinking Ships
Outbreak
Blacklisted
Bracewar
Guns Up!
Terror
Madball
xBishopx
Cast Aside
100 Demons
First Blood
Since The Flood

I've choosen those bands because each of them you should be able to find easily, and are pretty big. Easy place to pick up from for ya.

If you post anything you liked in particular, me and I'm sure some others will post other bands more specific to that.

What about trying these:

36 Crazyfists
Bring Me The Horizon
Bury Your Dead
Caliban
Chimaira
Deadlock
Evergreen Terrace
Faust Again
Heaven Shall Burn
Machinemade God
Maroon
Martyr A.D.
Narziss
Neaera
Raised Fist

I know some of them are hard to categorize, but it's a good start for getting into the heavy, groovy stuff...
