i've recently decided that this store is completely staffed by assholes. i've gotten some decent stuff there, but no thanks to them. i went there for their president's day sale and bought a preamp that the guy recommended. i asked if it was on sale and he said no but he could cut the tax if i bought it that day. so i figured i'd just buy it and if i didn't like it i'd bring it back. after i got out of the store i looked at my receipt and realized taht the mother ****er charged me tax. and thats only one of about ten stories i have about how much of scumbags they are there.

anyway, my question is if you guys have had a similar experience or if its just the one that i go to?

I don't have a Guitar Center in my town. We have 3 privately owned stores which 2 of them are awesome.
#3
all the associates in my store like me, but its probably because I don't suck nearly as much as the general populous.

Associates actually hand me new guitars to see what I think about them. Kinda cool i think.

yeah i tend to like the small shops. they may have higher prices at times. but i prefer to buy from people with souls.
#5
we dont have a guitar center, but we have a long and mcquade, and everyone there is a dick. they think they are so good..

i hate them all...

i just don't understand why you would take something you didn't ask for...

if he said

Well, I already rang them up and they would be a hassle, id just leave..

the sad thing is, the private shop in my town doesn't want you try out anything, so obviously I don't give them a dime, ever

umm... it's against the law not to charge tax. he very easily could have discounted what would have been the tax off of the sale price. but a tax is still going to show up on the receipt. don't get so angry.
#11
yea, the one guy at my guitar center used to be kinda dickish, but then he realized I didn't suck, so now he just says "hey"

i understand that. but he did not remove it from the price.

basically, i think he was saying he made a sale under false pretenses...

i would have returned that sh!t SO fast. They get paid on comission, so that would have shown that arse-hole

Never had the money to buy anything, but the 2 times I've been to one (the closest one is about an hour away) they've been really nice and all. The clerk never gave me that "not now, I'm kinda busy, but I'm going to help you because I have to" looks, he smiled and helped me out.

So, I guess mine's in the minority.

I went to Pro Sound in my town for a Les Paul. The guy says it will take 2 months to order. I wanted a Non Flame HSC Epiphone. He takes down my order, my name, my number. A month goes by with no word, so I drop by. This old stoner barely remembered me.

The conversation went something along the lines of me looking for a Strat, I say: No, Les Paul. He says: Oh yeah! A Gibson, right? I say: No, Epiphone. He says: Oh yeah! Black Beauty, right? I say: No, Heritage Cherry Sunburst. He said: Quilt Maple, right? I said: No, no flame, no quilt! He said: Oh yeah! It'll take me about 2 months to order that! I remind him of my order, he says: Oh yeah! It'll be another month!

I show up next month, no guitar, not even recognition from the stoner. I remind him again, and he tells me he never ordered it, but he will now, but it will be 2 months. I agree, and go home and log into Musician's Friend and get my Les Paul in 1 week. Exactly what I wanted, prompt delivery with email confirmations of my order.

Luckily we have a Guitar Center in town now, but I either get guys that have NO IDEA about guitars, or some elitist punk half my age that thinks they know everything about guitars, but apparently can't tune a guitar before handing it off for me to jam. Customer Service sucks,a nd it's a sad state of affairs when ordering online gives better results than face to face interactions.

Yeah I had a friend go there and he was going to buy a tele but it was really high up and they had one of those lights shining on it you know...anyway the guy got it down and handed it to my friend and it was almost to hott to touch. Also they just want to make a sale they don't care if its crap or not, I bought an Acoustic that had a bad fret, i know that it can happen but it never has at the other guitar shop i go to. So if you want a slow roasted guitar go there

I've never had problems with Guitar Center. I bought my Road King and 3 of my guitars there and they were always cooperative and nice. The guy was able to hassle and cut me $500 off of my King and cut tax on all of my guitars.

I'm glad I have more important things to spend money on than guitars... because I'd buy them a lot... and I hate the experience of buying a guitar. I love having a new guitar and playing on something different.. but I absolutely HATE going to shops to buy guitars.

Either the people don't know enough to help you or they know more than you'd ever like to know and won't leave you alone.

Maybe I'm still sore at Guitar Center for convincing me the Spider II was a good choice when I bought my first amp... assholes shoulda warned me instead of saying "Oh yeah, that's a good choice.. nevermind the other ones that are equally priced but twice as good!"

i go to one in southfield michigan and i think their great there. deals on absolutely anything i want. never pushy.

i have always had good luck at Guitar Center. they cut me amazing deals, and we are friends with all of them. they are the best, and the manager is very nice. here is a list of the item (majo items) and my experiences.

1: squire strat pack-bought it, and the guy knocked like 30$ off
2: Bought PA system for 400$ which was regularly 500$
3: Bought a Les Paul Ultra for 500$, which it was regularly like 600$
4: I went to guitar center several times looking for a digital recording machine. a tascam 8 track digital recorder was catching my eye. one week, it was 550$, the next week, it was 350$
5: i bought a tom delonge signature fender strat. it was origionally 350$. i got it for 300$ out the door, no tax, plus a free gig bag.
6: BC Rich Bronze Warlock, they knocked 25$ off the reg. price of 200$

guitar center is the best and they are always willing to help me with anything that i need. The recording machine was confusing, but a guy named Geoff helped me and worked with me. he is awesome! i love guitar center and i am glad that they support me!

I concur... I went in looking for trem springs and a chord to connect my pedal to my amp (didn't know what it was called), and I asked one of the people, and he said, "Good luck with that" about the trem springs, and "Well, I can't help you if you don't know what you need."

So I left, and went to a little privately owned shop and got what I needed...

Still don't know what that chord is called...

Where i live there is a guitar center about 20 minutes away. Me and my band go in threw and we know most of the people their, an ex-employee is our sound tech and so we are kinda "in" with the staff. They are awesome people. On the other hand i know a guy named "bob" from a flea market only open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from like noon to 4:30pm. He hooks our band up as well, but could be because he doesn't get a lot of customers or something, or because we come in and chat with him.

I've noticed that all the guitar center employees try to upsale anything ( i don't know if there on commision or there supposed to). I tried to buy a $15 korg tuner, nothing special, and the girl kept insisting i buy a $100 boss tuner.

Me : "i'd like buy that tuner"
Guitar Center employee: "Sure, but the mic on this one is a lot better"
Me: " I don't need that one, I want the korg"
Guitar Center Employee: "But this one is better"

I know what the hell I want before I walk into the store, and I don't need someone trying to convince me otherwise.

I have a Guitar Center in my town and it's not all THAT bad...Some of the people that work there are complete idiots. BUT, what store doesn't haven some of those? THe people who, work there work off comission so Guitar Center Inc. sells the products for a lot more than you should be paying. Nonetheless, I've NEVER paid full price for ANYTHING i've ever bought there. I got my Crate 120W amp for $260 even with the prive being at $389.99(on sale) and a Boss Giga Delay for $75 even with it being marked at $129.99

Oh and for that guy who thinks they didn't take the tax off....they did. He can't get around the ACTUAL tax but he CAN compensate by knocking an equal amount off of the sale price...
Why look a man in the eye when you can shoot him in the back?

If you can't convince them; confuse them.
