I'd say country or bluegrass would be pretty difficult, for being inbred is a pre-requisite

Do humungous bends and play really high notes, and sweep and just play overall fast. He can't keep up with a guitar if he has human lungs.
#7
hehe. good. i can do all of those things.

The only advantage of home-schooling is that it gives you good reason to commit suicide.

Hit this once or twice, and you'll be twice as nice.

bring an apple and throw it in the sax, that'll take him down a peg.

Also do some things below low A#/Bb. That's as low as an alto goes. The notes are usually also harder to get out. especially fast.

Saxophone is 10000X sexier than guitar. He will win by making everybody horny.
#14
...If you say so ^. I play them both, I must say I find the guitar much more sexy. How many porn stars do you see endorsing Yamaha saxophones?
#15
depends, is it a tonor sax? high notes are his weakness, bari sax, def high notes, if its an alto, it can go just as you, and if hes a soprano dont even try to go higher than him

sax fingerings require very little hand movement its a lot easier to do sweep-like arrpegios and scales
very easy

advice, pinch harmonics, double stops, maybe a few chords (he cant do those), sweep like hell, tapping, bends, tremolo if you have one

EDIT: Play some jazz and make it sound good with what the sax is playing.

Saxes can do just about everything except for chords (and a good sax player isn't going to have any trouble with high notes). There's a bit of a range drop from guitar to sax, but most people aren't going to notice that unless that in one song. So chords are just about the only advantage you have, in terms of the instrument.

Dave Dylan Hendrix as in Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix combined, methinks.

Do a pickslide and then go into this huge overdriven metal solo, complete with bends, double-stops, slides, and artificial harmonics.

=P

But in all seriousness, you'll probably just have to be a better musician than he is.

Good luck!

What if he has robotic lungs?

But the point is: Music is too mutable, too ambiguous, too unruly to allow itself to be defined by an absolute syntax of terms. Don't bother. Live with it.

Sax and gutiar all have their pros and cons. Just don't do somethign absolutely cheap and stupid. If you don't have any honor to play nicely. He will be merciless, if he is the amazign sax player he is. But I've seen a lot of shitty sax players. I play sax and guitar too.

But honestly just do what you do best. Its awesome to hear two people of different instruments that dont' paly together a lot just jamming together. Don't turn it into a competition, try more like sharing each other's styles. Sax players have really different soloing styles from guitarists. You can learn a lot of new licks from a good sax player and convert them to guitar.
