I've been playing guitar for 3 years and I never use tabs that look like these:
G

e ---|---|-x-|---|---|
B ---|---|---|---|---|
G ---|---|---|---|---|
D ---|---|---|---|---|
A ---|-x-|---|---|---|
E ---|---|-x-|---|---|

because, well, i can't read them. I know how to read the usual tabs with the numbers and all but I've always avoided using these because I never wanted to look like a noob asking how to read them. Problem is, Ultimate-guitar is my go-to site and all the high rated tabs on this one song i really wanna learn look like this. So how do you read tabs like this where it doesnt even tell you what fret to go to?

Frets
- -1- -2 - 3 - 4 - 5
e ---|---|-x-|---|---|
B ---|---|---|---|---|
G ---|---|---|---|---|
D ---|---|---|---|---|
A ---|-x-|---|---|---|
E ---|---|-x-|---|---|

You put your fingers on the x and you strum all the strings and.... this is a chord !!

those would be mutes..you should try looking through other forums before posting stuff next time, it could save you time!

the guy above me is wrong...

that actually is a chord diagram, epiphonist
but in tabs, an x does mean muting

The frets go from left to right, with the furthest one to the left being the 1st fret.

Although in normal tablature an x would stand for a mute, this is a chord diagram so it's telling you where to put your fingers (epiphonist shut up).

This should probably be in the guitar basics forum anyway...

This thread would be more acceptable and appropriate in the Tab related forums..
You guys should know that.
This forum is for website questions only and to get you people oriented in the right forum.

try the guitar/tab forums. you will get much more coherent and accurate answers there, i'm sure.
