Pentatonic, without a doubt. Maybe some blues notes thrown in, too, or minor/major.

Pentatonic/Blues, but I like to have fun with Dorian and Mixolydian modes as well.

what do you mean, as long as you go up and down the neck you can find a pentatonic scale to solo over "almost" any chord progression

I actually just made a solo earlier today that I'm very pleased with.. and it's based off basic A minor pentatonic. =D

monor pentatonic, nuetral pentatonic, mayor pentatonic, some of the more santana stuff could use a more modal approach, with pentatonics integrated in
