Les Paul is with no doubt the most overpriced guitar you can buy BUT...
I always hear stories about how great the SG's are... but I don't ... well... I sort of hate them ...
#6
Les Paul without a doubt. Every popular band in the UK seems to be using Gibbos.

I hate Gibson. God knows why I bought an Epiphone.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

I dig just about every guitar on the list except the Ibanez RG. There's just something about that makes me dislike it any time I pick one up.
#10
i love most ibanez's but i HATE some gibsons and les pauls and if that's not enough there're those dmn ugly PRS's (only some of them)
#12
Les Pauls are sooo overrated. I mean, if you compare Fender Strats to Gibson LPs, the Pauls are +500 for the same end guitar.
Same thing goes for comparing Squiers to Epiphones actually O_o

Screw LPs anyway. Friend of mine came up to me and said yo you're gonna think I'm so cool, I bought a guitar. And he comes up with this reaaaally crap Hyundai (???????) LP copy. There were like .13 or whatever strings on it out of the box, the action was higher than most buildings are, intonation was not possible to fix, two knobs didn't do anything, thing just sucked. So I asked what he payed for it he says 40 bucks I say figures.

Ibanez guitars are at least priced at what they're good for.
Only thing I'd play a Les Paul for is maybe sustain. Well **** sustain. =D
#13
Haha who needs natural sustain anyway
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.
#14
Gibson Les Pauls. nearly everyone has one, and their extremely overpriced.

Gibsons cost more because they use more/better materials

Mahogany costs more than Alder and Maple
Maple Tops cost more than no top
Tilted Headstocks are harder to make than straight ones
Gibsons have binding, Fender doesn't

and most Squires are made from plywood or agathis. I'll take a mahogany/alder body over that any day.

I don't hate gibson at all. I like the LP shape actually. But there is no way I'd pay that much for a guitar. (3,000 dollars and up) It's crazy...

I agree, but I see plenty of fine Gibson LPs for a lot less than 3000.
#19
Gibsons = pure shit. What happened to the days of quality control?

and that neck, whew. It's like it's made for people with hands shaped like a cell phone with fingers that reach halfway across the body of a guitar.

^ couldn't agree more, They're nice guitars but.... WAY overpriced IMO.

and to be honest, BC Rich's are way too underrated, yeah the bronze series sucks, but they're Affordable. the other series take way too much of a bashing 'round here! Like ANY brand they have their flaws(ie. bad pickups). but most guitars with a decent price tag have shitty pickups. I don't like all the crazy shapes they make but, they do make some nice guitars!

Fender Strats and Ibanez RG are way overrated. A cheap fender or Ibanez doesn't sound good. Not even the Fender AMR series sound like crap and have skinny tone.

Gibson Les pauls all the way. For the price of $2300, you could either get a Standard 60's LP or a PRS Custom 24. I would take the PRS.

Why the MIM strats?

Gibsons are overpriced, but not necessarily over-rated,they've earned the right to be top of the pile but they aren't exactly trying very hard at the moment. Most over-rated guitar?

Why the MIM strats?

The neck makes me cringe.
All the ones ive played are pretty chunky and too flat for my liking.
Swapped the neck they'd be great.

Fender Strats are overrated in my opinion, they sound nice and stuff, but there are guitars that are a lot better. Also, everyone has one...
#39
ANY Ibanez. (Apart from the SZ/SA or whatevers. The nice ones.)

I know you all love them here, but I've never played one that I was fully satisfied with. A couple of friends even have Prestiges and such, and they aren't really that impressive.

I mean, they are very mass produced in terms of quality, e.g the neck pocket being slightly too big and such, and some of the finishes just look cheap (the snakeskin and sparkle....bleh....). They don'y have the craftmanship other guitars do. Also... The necks. Not as great as everyone seems to think. Not even that nice, and most are like 5 peices. You can't say that won't affect tone.

They are good for shred and trem wanking (even most of the trems suck), but otherwise they just aren't too good IMO.

Also.

So...that explains why 2 or 3 years ago I could get an SG standard for £800, now they cost like £1200? Hmm.... The price of mahogany sure must have gone up....
