I know they have a thread...but this is new enough for a new one.

http://www.myspace.com/officialneurosis

New song listen to it.
It's heavier, much heavier than previous two albums. They've gone back to being a sludge band again, and this is some of the best shit they've ever put out IMHO.

^^I see where youre coming from, but I wouldnt say Mastodon arent a Neurosis rip off, although they have quite a similar style. I'd say that Mastodon are more 'moshable' while Neurosis are more atmospheric and doomy. Mastodon sound more like the band Lightning Bolt to me than Neurosis.

Do they have anything else thats like Eye Of Every Storm? I got that first and fell in love with it. Picked up Souls At Zero and Through Silver In Blood more recently but haven't gotten that into them yet. The title track off Souls is creepy/trippy as fukk.

The new song was pretty cool too although I'm still more a fan of their lighter material.

Yes, get A Sun that Never Sets.

And to whoever claimed Neurois to have been hardcore punk, that is incorrect. They invented the genre sludge. They were a sludge band up until A Sun that Never Sets and The Eye of Every Storm, and now, they have returned to being a sludge band again with their new album(to be released) Given to the Rising.

I'll check it out. What genre would you call those 2 albums? I guess post-metal since it's sort of in the vein of Isis and such.

They didn't invent sludge.

At least not the kind of sludge I'm thinking about.

Neurosis invented sludge. PERIOD.

Yes, A Sun that Never Sets and the Eye of Every Storm would be called post metal.

No they didn't.

Atmospheric sludge/post metal, yes, but not down right traditional sludge.

Wrong, the first album and Demos were very much of the Hardcore/Crossover Thrash ilk. It wasn't until Souls at Zero did they begin branching out. They did not create sludge either. However they can lay claim to truly pushing the Post-Hardcore/Atmospheric Hardcore genre further, as well as being one of the few bands that isn't contained to title given to people such as myself. To be honest I've always had touble calling the band metal.

Regarding the new track, I can apreciate the heavier sound, but I am not to big on the production for the moment.

^ How is the crossover stuff Mike? Sounds kind of interesting. Not really related but I love C.O.C's crossover material. I wish they would play a song or 2 live, Vote with A Bullet was the closest thing I got.

Now that Given to the Rising is out, does anyone have any opinions about it?

I hope it's more like Times of Grace than ASTNS

From what ive heard from it its pretty good. That being said, I was hoping for something more mellow like The Eye of Every Storm, its pretty similar to that album exept heavier.

I prefer TEOES, but still sounds well worth the listen.

The first two albums (Pain of Mind and The Word As Law) are awesome! I saw Neurosis play in '90 to about 20 people in Edmonton, AB. They literally changed my life! lol! One of the most intense shows I have ever seen. Bought the Word As Law the next day and listened to it everyday for 2 years! Souls at Zero took everyone by surprise and was a hell of a departure from their previous work. An amazingly resilient band. Looking forward to the new one.

So, are there any band that have a similiar sound to the more slowpaced songs with Clean Vocals on Sun that Never Sets...

Given to the Rising has been edging out Through Silver in Blood slowly, though when I finally get around to finding and listening to a version of Through Silver in Blood with the Tribes of Neurot counterpart, I am certain it will crush the competition, as the same thing happened with Times of Grace/Grace when I found it somewhere in the depths of the interweb-tubes.

Thought id bump this baby. Recently properly lost my Neurosis virginity with Souls At Zero....and I am well impressed. Great, great album, even makes tribal sounds work well, which I usually hate.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

I wouldn't call Neurosis 'sludge'. Check out EYEHATEGOD. That's sludge. Weedeater is another band that comes to mind as sludge. Buzzov*en, too. I think experimental is a more appropriate description of Neurosis than sludge.

Hey, Neurosis thread activity

Unfortunately I don't have anything really to say apart from I've been in one of my Neurosis phases lately and listening to a few albums a day. So good.
