I just found out about this and tried this, but my torrents haven't been going any faster. Are there any reasons why forwarding my ports haven't helped?

It helps people connect to you.

Can speed up seeding etc.

I know what it is, and I've tried it but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Can anyone think of any reason that it hasn't helped?

Do you have windows firewall switched on?

Also what torrent client are you using?

Window firewall is on. I'm using Bittorrent.

I'm pretty sure that my connection is like 5MB/s.

The thing is I'm getting 0 - 1/2 kbps.

Try turning windows firewall off.

It slowed my connection down sooo much.

Stupid me. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I always turn off my Windows firewall before CS. Thanks.

EDIT: I use BitDefender. Zone alarm was all buggy when I used it.

Port forwarding doesn't really make your speeds faster.
Its a router setting so that someone from the outside sending something to you knows where to go to be received by a specific application (such as an ftp server).

it can be, but if you know how to debug it and set it up it works better that most of the other ones, and its a whole lot harder to hack.

Anyone know how to disable windows firewall if it's locked up with group permissions? I suspect it's to do with the LAN we have in my house.

if its locked you need to get on an account with admin status and unlock it from there.

You're not going to be getting 5mbits/s on illegal torrents.

the best bet is to choose a random Open Office torrent. if thats going slow too, then you're connections ****ed.
