UPDATE

She's Finished! 31/3/07

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Please scroll through the thread for progress shots!

Ever since my Gibson arrived, my faithful old yamaha pacifica 012 had sat in the corner, looking lonely, and red. Oh, so horribly red.

So I decided to paint her

After breaking the power sander (d'oh!) i had to resort to hand sanding the old finish away, which took a good few hours, and ripped my hands a tad The wood looks like agathis to me.

Then after a few coats of primer, she looked like this

And now, 10 coats of Halfords Glossy White later, this is the result. (Remember picture doesn't do it any justice )

Nice Olympic white strat look eh?
Now iv gotta wait two weeks for the paint to be ready for the clear coat, and final buffing process

Oh yeah, Iv also scalloped frets 16 - 22, pics of that soon.

Opinions?

Nice.

That white looks very clean. You see a lot of finishes that look like nicotine.

Very nice! I love the white, it's MUCH nicer than the red IMO

The yamaha site says its agathis, and the wood didnt seem of any high quality so i assumed that to be correct.

It might have some kind of laminate on it though?

No, it's not a laminate, it looks like it's a few peices of whatever wood it is glued lengthwise. It looks like about 6 peices.

Yeah you can see the massive change in wood down the middle

Sweet!
Can you put a Strat pickgaurd on it?

Im not too sure it would fit, but if i could get a 3 ply 'guard on it, it would look a lot better methinks

Get some TORTOISE pickguard on that thing, no white strat is complete without a tortoise prickguard.
#16
I thought no BLONDE strat was complete with out a tortoise shell pickguard

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

looks very nice, and has given me more inspiration to do a les paul knock off ill hopefully be receiving soon.

Something you could do would be sanding the whole of the headstock and refinish it, it doesn't look too good with only that little bit sanded off. But it looks great anyway, I love white strat-type guitars! Looks very good indeed man. Have you considered overhauling it more? New hardware and that.

It's pretty hard to find someone as hardcore as Tom. The race for hardcore supremacy would be pretty close but i think Tom's got his nose just in front for now...

Yeah, i will eventually do the headstock in white too, becuase it looks a bit odd at the moment At some point i'm going to replace pickups and tuners, becuase both are horrific
