You can, but you won't want to

I'm not sure about pages loading faster (they do for me though, could be coincidence).

And to thurston, it's much better. Safer against viruses and the like, and there's a lot of features to make browsing easier, as well as the opportunity to customise it.

I think Explorer is better. I don't know why, I guess I'm just so used to it. I'm not sure, but I think Firefox has more features than Internet Explorer.

if anyone has the latest version of ie its basicly just a copy of firefox just firefox is stillfaster, better, saffer and has better plugins...

so get mozilla firefox...
#8
Yeah, you can get cool plug ins and skins for Firefox.

There are ways that "apparently" speed up loading pages in Firefox. You have to set it so that it loads more objects at once or something.

Honestly, IE isn't any less safe than Firefox. Firefox just has extra add-ins to make it more "secure." which is a joke. Anything you can catch with IE you'll catch with Firefox. I just like Firefox because it's smoother and I honestly hate Microsoft, even though I have XP and plan to get Vista after a few generations.

I've found it much safer than Internet Explorer, always. I remember formatting my computer, opened up IE just so I could download Firefox... First time I open IE, I get a bloody porn toolbar for obscure transgender fetishes. What the hell?

I suppose it's a hit and miss. If you're used to IE and it's working fine, don't bother switching. If you want something safer and more customisable, try Firefox, or Opera.

It really depends... I tweak the settings for Firefox to get it faster. It loads ever so slightly slower than IE when I first open it, but it breezes through pages quickly. That's only because IE is integrated into the OS...

And it's safer, because you really choose what you want. I'll just say this... ActiveX. Oh, I'll also say HTML formatting. I hate IE with a passion. I've grown accustomed to Firefox and other good browsers. At least with it, I know anything malicious I get is my own stupid fault, and not because of any security flaws.

They occasionally find security holes in Firefox, but at least it doesn't allow malicious programmers to install ActiveX controls without your permission, which is what happens every once in a while when a new leak is discovered. That's a serious security threat because it allows people to install things like trojans and keyloggers. ActiveX is unnecessary anyway.
Also, Microsoft sure take their sweet time to fix their bugs: traditionaly they only release patches once a month. If a leak is discovered in Firefox, it's fixed within a few days.

I care more about Firefox's great plug-ins though. For example, being a part-time web designer/developer, i absolutely friggin worship the Web Developer Toolbar and the Firebug javascript/HTML/CSS debugging console/DOM-inspector.

And for those pesky "IE only" sites, there's a plugin called IEtab, which runs the IE engine within the Firefox interface at the push of a button, or you can configure it to always open certain sites in IE mode (like the windows update site, etc.).

Yes, you can still use IE.

Yes it's free. www.getfirefox.com

Extensions are prob the main reason it has gotten so popular, as well as being more secure due to not including activeX, and having extensions such as adblock and firekeeper, so there are no adverts or malicious scripts on pages.

Honestly, yes it is. If you ever look on security sites, about 2-3 exploits for Internet Explorer are found a day, and those are only the ones that are published. IE is crap when it comes to active X, its quite exploitable.

konqueror

They have it for windows? I actually kind of like it, besides the lack of ctrl-enter for the address bar.

I've never found that working well for me =/

edit: I recommend mouse gestures too: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/39/

You can right-click and move around your mouse to close windows, change tabs, e.t.c.

I also just installed Firefox and am having problems. I'm trying to download a video from downloadfestival.tv and the video isn't showing up on the screen, just a white blank spot. And on youtube it says I need the latest flash player even though using Explorer I can watch them. Can anyone help me, I'm really confused.
