What movies and books have most inspired punk bands over the years?

Which presidents and prime ministers have most inspired them?

Discuss.

As already mentioned, Reagan inspired the whole 80's hardcore stuff. Catch 22 inspired a few bands I believed (Catch 22 being the obvious band)

The Beat Generation seemed to have a profound influence on the New York music scene of the 60's and 70's.

Patti Smith and Lou Reed were both huge fans of William Burroughs.

And for Some reason Bukowski seemed to have influenced alot of post hardcore bands (See: Hot Water Music)

Kerouac and Bukowski would be big ones. Also George Orwell and Anthony Burgess.
