I have a Traynor YCV 50Blue and a les paul studio. My problem is the overdrive on my amp never sounds how I want it. It always has to much edge it's to gritty. I'm looking for a smoother overdrive. Would different tubes help (it has EL34s in power and 12AX7WAs in pre) What about an Eq pedal.

Get an overdrive pedal instead, and run that on you amp's clean channel.

How much gain do you need?

Get an Ibanez tube screamer
Dave Mustain has wrote some of the most amazing solos...
That he can't actually play!

Get a EHX Big Muff. keep your amp on clean though, unless you want it as a boost. The OD on that thing rocks.

Yeah a nice OD like a Tubescreamer would do you wonders.

Maxon OD9. Cheaper and better than the Ibanez ones (if only I would have known that when I bought mine).

I've got the TS9DX and it's great. To be honest, as long as you avoid the cheap tone-loc series you're onto a winner, but if you can afford a Keeley one then get one.
