I've just got a Gibson SG but quite fancy fitting a vibrola to it like the one in the picture but im not sure if any modifications will be needed or where to get one from in the UK?

That's a Maestro Vibrola. You can't just order one offline, you'll have to get your local guitar shop to do it. You shouldn't need any mods since it's designed for SGs anyway.

When I was in the market for a tremolo for my SG I tried a Vibrola and I didn't like it at all. There wasn't enough bend effect, it was just a very mild "wobble". So I then tried some bigsbys and that when I found what I wanted. I ended up buying a Bigsby B5 Original for my G400 Custom (Don't buy the licensed, they are really cheap). I had to have mine installed though for about $50.

Why? Surely if a guitar shop can order one, then I can?

I think they have to be ordered direct from Gibson, and you can't do that.
