I get all sorts of funky sounds, so I suspect my pretubes are messed up. I want to switch them around to see if it makes a difference. Problem is, I dont know how.

I have a B-52 112 combo amp with
4 x 12AX7 preamp tubes
2x 6L6 + 1x 12AX7 power tubes

two of the preamp tubes seem to have a metal cylinder protecting them.

How do I take the cylinders off and the tubes out? Do I pull or to I twist?

you twist the metal covers. they will pop off.

then just unplug and plug them like a lightbulb.

I usually screw in lightbulbs.

You just carefully pull and wiggle the tubes, and they will come out.

do I turn the casing clockwise or counter clockwise? note: they hang upside down

The shield isn't very delicate, so you don't have to be that careful with it. Just try both directions.
