...?

Do you mean use your computer keyboard to program midi?

because if yes, garageband will, and the one with cm will, not sure about the other free ones

I think so. Im not too techincal but what about playing the programs piano with my keyboard. Does that help??

yeah. I know logic will do "caps lock keyboard keyboard", can't remember if garageband will do that. I don't know if audacity even supports midi...

anyway a midi controller (doesn't have to be big) isn't too expensive and is probably easier

Audacity doesn't do Midi.

Garageband certainly does that. And you can change all the tunings, if you desire

garageband is awesome for keyboards... the new version of it (which i dont have) has a ton of cool instruments that can be used via keyboard... you can also buy even more instruments through jampacks(i believe thats what they're called)

garage band is a very bad program for both audio recording and midi. If your looking for a midi sequencer, buy reason, it really hard to get used to but it is top of the line. if you cant afford, your screwed, because im sure you dont want to DOWNLOAD IT OFF OF A TORRENT. it will work on pc and mac. it also has some very impressive samples, my band uses alot of the organ samples both live and in the studio.

Any reasons to back that up?

I agree that Reason owns its arse but for being shipped free with macs garageband is ridiculous good

sure there are limitations (multitrack recording basically) but for learning the ropes it's great

i can say that I love my Mac, and Garage Band is awesome. I'm far from a pro at using it, I still have yet to master all of its capabilities, but from what I've used, it made recording rather easy and painless.
