Ug, I turn to you in a time of need. My band consists of an excellent guitarist, a great sheet music singer, another backup singer whos scared to sing out but has a great voice, me the bassist/singer, a drummer whos been playing since he was 4 (obviously hes great), a manager, and a keyboardist who use to play but is just now getting back in. The guitarist, drummer, and I know the music but no one else does. So heres the deal, the guitarist likes to play every time he gets a chance. When I stop to help one of the new people out he starts to play anything and everything and wont stop for like a minute at least. When the guitarist starts up, naturally our drummer kicks up a beat. It gets the point where I cant hear the person I am helping and I am having to unplug the guitar. The singer wants to make a set list of songs to play for some gigs we have this summer but yet him and the other two don't even know all of our music yet. How do we know what we can rock out when they don't even know them yet? All of our music is in tabs and all the keyboardist and singer know is sheet music. They don't understand the simplicity of tabs and it drives me crazy. I am currently transposing it all to sheet music on guitar pro but it takes time. Today I realized something, the more I push to get constructive playing, the less we get. Our best practices have been our first two. I need help big time.

schedule some jams with JUST those who need the help, then with JUST those that cant read tab, and once they all have at least SOME idea, they can help each other out...

Sounds like you're controlling. Maybe teach those people shit in their own time. If they arnt idiots you should just be able to explain it all to them with tabbing it all out. Just go it sounds like this "BABa da da" or whatever. Obviously not quite that simple. You know how it goes. Just explain they should catch on.
If your parents never had children, chances are, you wont either.

btw if you have the tabs typed up you can transpose it using 8notes.com and just tell them that it's not the timing

I have a question that doesn't help you at all but I would like to know.

Do you play bass because thats the instrument you play or do you play it because no one else would. Be honest.

dude for the singer just sing the melody of each song for them so they get the gist of it, then they can just sing, not look at stupid sheet music while they're performing.

i do that to. just play when i get the chance. then the drummer starts playing. but both me and my friend (the guitarists) both do that. On way to solve if everyone is just screwing around is to start packing up your equipment. that usually turns things around
