In our pursuit of encouraging DIY punk rock, I was thinking that a few of us who can be trusted could have a UG myspace and each week we could upload one new song which can stay there for a month and then be exchanged.

Basically, we upload songs that people on here have recorded, either solo or with a band.

Thoughts?

Well, my recommendations are brianapocalypse and whyvern because they're two guys who care about DIY(particularly whyvern in this case) and could help it function. I could also help out with it.

Basically, it's first come, first served so if someone can post back and say, 'Hey, please stick this song up for me.' Then they can pm one of the people with the password for the punkspace and can send them the song via AIM, myspace or a peeer2peer.

Yeah i've got a cover of the alcoholic by chaos uk somewhere if you want to stick that up.

Well, I'll wait and see who volunteers to help run the myspace, then we can make the common e-mail to share for it.

You dont need UG's permission to do so just do it.

What about something like Pure Volume or Dmusic. Some music hosting thing.

It's just a shame that they're all useless.

Well looks like it'd have to be Myspace because I can't think of anything else.

Yeah, better a 4 song limit than one that doesn't work.

Unless we can use some kind of password protect file share thing?
#19
Just use a site like mediafire and just make a sticky thread with the link.
I'd avoid using myspace, but that's just me.

When e-mailing or sending the file from a p2p make it a winzip file with a password which is a series of numbers which only people that have volounteered knows.

Why?

You dont need to trust anyone, because you dont need a password, just use one of the many upload sites (megashare, rapidshare) and make a thread for it.

I really like that idea.

Can anyone vouch for teenage riot? So far Brian is helping me as a certainty.

For now, we'll have to stick with a myspace. I think that rotating the songs is what makes it interesting. High ratings could get them to stay there for another week etc.

Brian will make a webpage at a latter date.

I have made the gmail account and in the process of the myspace. For now, I'll stick with Brian, and mike2. If the idea catches on and we can get a lot of page hits, we can get more people to help.

I don't know much about myspace but can't you put up a bunch of videos on a page? Because people could just add their songs to some random background and someone could put them on the myspace page. It would boost the number of songs the page could hold at one time, even if they aren't in the little music player box.

Great idea BTW

^ That's a great idea too! We can fill the page with 'videos' which, can just be songs playing if they aren't actual vids.

a lot of the '77 bands have playlists generated from music.com sites or whatever, but that's unethical so we'll give that in the miss.

In the meantime we have rotation, and once it gets running we'll have the entire back catalogue as well
