Can anyone give me some characteristics of mariachi music? Chords, tempo, anything.

Oh, and if you wonder why i'm asking for the characteristics of different genres, me and my friends are playing a talent show, spoofing many genres of music.

Brass and violin melodies over an acoustic (nylon string) guitar backing, Guitarron improvising bass. Usually the backing is at a quick tempo, even when the vocal melody is not. Always sung in spanish. Accompanyment with a spanish-mexican feeling, often a tonal phrygian minor, or a spanish major.

For the guitars, and vihuelas, the rhythm is usually a two measure repeating rhythmic motif, the harmonic texture is fairly simple (don't get too jazzy).
