Okay so I've been looking round at pedals and whatnot, and have been interested in the russian Big muff. But a few days ago it disappeared from GAK and now it's gone from Thomann.

Where has the Russian big muff gone?!

Well I don't know, the two I'm thinking of are Hendrix (purple haze) and Zeppelin 1. Which would you suggest?

I bought a Russian Big Muff Pi for a friend, and had it for a few days, during which I played it almost non-stop. The two are differant in that the American is more "definied" and "rich", and the Russian is more "Gritty" and "Uncouth". Frankly, I liked the Russian one a great deal, but can't compare it first hand to an American.

the russian one is mainly good for rythmn in my opinion

while the american is good for rythmn and lead

this is because the russian muff is a little less predictable...

^Not with a Muff.
A Muff is voiced quite dark, Hendrix used a fuzz face and Jimmy Page used rather brightish fuzz's.

The Russian Muff is generally supposed to sound a tiny bit more gritty than the American one. I've never had the chance to a/b them though.

Some guy in a guitar shop mentioned that they've stopped making the Russian Muff now, but I don't know if it was true because he was a bit of an idiot.
