Right, I'm doing music GCSE with my guitar and was wondering what to do for my solo performance.
I can't really do song with a load of riffs and a solo or something because you have to play the melody for it to count as a complete piece.
Has anyone done music GCSE or does anyone know some good instrumental pieces or something that would work not originally for guitar?
Nothing too technical, I'm supposed to do something between a grade 3 and grade 5.

EDIT: i should add that i am tomwm's brother but my account got blocked. i play guitar not bass

If you do a harder piece you get moved up. Apparenty for a harder piece, barre chords and anything above 12 fret counts.

I got a B in music by doing Hawthorne Heights...

For my GCSE i did a classical piece by Fernando Sor, but what kind of music do you usually play? If i know that i'll see if i can give you some ideas.

use the 'rock school' books. Your school should provide them. They should be easy for you if you are a fairly experienced guitarist.

I would definately do something by Satch. For challenging, try either Satch Boogie, or Surfing With the Alien.

I'm thinking about doing GCSE msuic, but I've been warned off saying that it's all compositions with other instruments etc.

Do you only play guitar?
Quote by Sonicxlover
Obviously we should play the UG theme.

i can play a bit of keyboard, but we've got software at school for doing compositions with all instruments

if i did a song i'd have to sing the melody, which i'd also be graded on, and i cant sing at all
i was thinking about doing a jazz or blues instrumental

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what sort of standard AS pieces should be? I'm thinking of doing The Extremist, Always With Me Always With You and Welcome to Bucketheadland, but if anything easier will still get me an A/B, that would be good.

It doesn't need to be challenging. I got an A with Sum 41.

I just did my AS performance, i played my own arrangement of Spain by Chick Corea, and that got rated as difficult(so i got extra marks). As a rule, you can get an A with a grade 5/6 piece, i know a guy last year played Flying in a Blue Dream and got nearly full marks, so its not entirely necessary to play anything that hard.

Pfft. GCSE Music is a load of crap if you're self-taught and lazy.

I'm self taught and I can read music fairly fluently and I've got a working knowledge of theory that I'd say is generally better than the average musician I meet on the scene. Being self taught is no excuse.
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me: no, nor woman neither... nor women neither.

I've decided that I'm going to do Supersonic by Oasis. I can play the guitar part then play the melody over that recording. Its not the hardest, but it doesn't need to be and if I get it all right and have good interpretation (dynamics) I should get at least a B.
