what do you want to do to your sound?

do you want distortion (what amp do you have?)

modulation?

delay?

in addition, a budget would help

a wah is nice to have
but if you want a wah that can handle distortion well and sound decent
you might wanna look into the dimebag wah

for a classic rock wah
vox is the way to go

One thing: do you really want some sort of effect, or do you just want something shiny in your chain? I ask this because some people want to buy a pedal for the sole act of buying it. It might sound like crap, they might never use it, but they have it. If you really do want one for a good reason, then by all means get one, but it's a good idea to think about it. I never got any effects until I had listened to my favorite bands and heard some sweet sounds that I liked. I loved Voodoo Child, for example. Now I have a wah, and I love it. But do I have a chorus? No, it's just not the sound I like.

With $280 you could get a new amp, with FX built in.

I'm assuming if it's 10 watts and two channels it's a little bedroom amp.

However you easily have enough for a vox ad30vt amp, which will really improve your sound. Also it'll give you a better idea of effects. So that when you do buy one you'll know what to get.

However if you want to get a pedal, I say either a distortion/OD or you should get a wah.
