I like the Adolescents, they get me crunk. But I read somewhere that their sound greatly influenced goth punk bands of later years. So, I didn't really see that, except for "Falling Out", which is a goth-sounding song, but sounds really different from the others. I like it though, so basically I'm looking for recommendations of goth punk bands of the like, I've never really listened to goth punk but it sounds interesting judging from the Adolescents...

The influence is Rikk Agnew, who was in the Adolescents and then joined Christian Death.

For good gothpunk, listen to 45 Grave's "Sleep In Safety" and TSOL's "Dance With Me".

I don't like straight edge because it's part of Hardcore, and I don't like Hardcore because, aside from the terrible music, the kids are often very homophobic.

You forgot ugly, lazy and disrespectful.

Listen to Richard Hung Himself by the Adolescents. That's probably their "most" gothic song. Beyond that, you should listen to the bands Nemo said and try X's first album. It has "gothy" moments. Also, you should listen to some deathrock. It's got some of the same themes in the lyrics and even some similarities in the sound. A couple deathrock bands that come to mind are the Flesh Eaters and the Mentally Ill.

Thanks for the recommendations, and by the way opivy, I was just thinking that, I swear. I'm listening to Los Angeles right now

Yeah, it's not on all the songs, but there's parts like in Nausea and Unheard Music where it just reminds me of a gothic sound.

Christian Death is ace, "Romeo's Distress" is such a painfully cool song. And Rikk Agnew is the reason that The Adolescents are associated with Goth Punk. Also if you listen to their second album "Brats In Battalions"(it was made after Rikk's stint with Christian Death) it has a much slower and darker Punk sound.

Definitely, death rock is pretty punky.

Man that song is so awesome.. such a great feeling... such a simple riff but yet so awesome.
According to BS statistics, 92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you're among the 8% who doesn't consider rap to be real music, donate your brains, as you clearly aren't using them.

It was recorded by the Adolescents first.

"Richard Hung Himself" was recorded by The Adolescents first, if you check out the Adolescents "Complete demos 1981-1986" it's on there. I think Casey Royer just carried the song with him when he started D.I.

The bands i can reccomend for a goth-like punk sound are:

Samhain(Definitly check them out,I think theyre gonna be the closest to what sound you're describing).
TSOL
45 Grave

I'd say Misfits, but in my opinion they dont have a goth type sound at all except for maybe a few songs(Halloween II,Theme for a Jackyl, etc). If you dont listen to them already, then I definitly recommend you try to get some stuff by them cause I think you'd like them.
