Im new to guitar, and was wondering if i can create distortion just using my amp, no pedals. If possible, how?

What amp do you have? If there is a knob that says Gain, R'fier or crunch etc, turn it up and see. You might have an amp with only clean. So What amp do you have??

If you have a tube amp, crank it, if you have a transistor amp, there is usually a Gain, Drive, or Distortion knob on it.

Or you can resort to the ancient method of poking a hole in the speaker cone.

nvm, just turn the gain button and turn to the lead channel

yeah, the speaker vibrated unevenly and created distortion.

really oldschool.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.

Janis Joplin's group Big Brother and the Holding Company, the Grateful Dead and others sliced and poked holes in their speakers to get a buzzing sound that the ear interpreted as nasty distortion/fuzz. Back then most amps did not have a master volume (all were also tube amps.) It sure was a horrible way to have to do it.

I did that with a really old tube bass amp and a bunch of post it notes. Fuzzsaw tones are pretty sick.

Basically, grab a pencil that is sharped.
Now, open up the amp grille.
See the speaker cone? Good, now randomly jab a few holes.
Close the grille.
Enjoy.
