What exactly is the difference between the tone settings on the amp versus the settings used on an eq pedal?

More knobs= more options

for example.... When you cut the middle using jsut the amps you tend to loose some volume, but with the equalizer pedal you can cut the mids and then add a small boost to make up for the loss of volume.

with a pedal EQ you also can change tones mid-song, which is great for solos and bridges and stuff

EQ's pedals are awesome.
I have a song where me and the rythyn guitarist both apply the EQ ped with the middles all the way up and the low and high all the way down and it sounds like your on the phone. \
