Has anyone gotten a chance to try out the new Boss FS-Z (I believe) Fuzz pedal? I have enough money and was wondering if it would be a good choice to replicate David Gilmour's sound.

seeing that its digital (i mean come on...a digital fuzz? )
i wouldnt get it

gilmour used a big muff (so i hear - there was a thread earlier)
so you should just go for one of those

Gilmour used a Fuzz Face and later on he used a Big Muff. I've tried a Big Muff, but it sounded horrible on my amp, and I hear the Dunlop fuzz faces are utter shit, and I bet a vintage one would be hard to come by.

And you make a valid point, I never realized that it was digital.

well
youre right, the arbiter fuzz faces of today are crap in a box...a round one

what amp are you playing through?

and what budget would you have?

I'm playing through an MG and I have about $140. Before anyone goes and starts to tell me to get a new amp, I am, just not yet.

Yeah Gilmour had many effects, I see alot of people using the BD-2 blues driver if you want to go with Vox.

As for Big Muff I beleive he used a Russian/Sovtek one so i'd look into that.
Edit: Here www.gilmourish.com
All you'll need is there.

Well I would look into the RUssian Muff, I know he also used a ProCo Rat.

the problem is that most fuzz pedals will sound pretty crappy through your amp

if you had a higher budget i'd say get the fuzz factory
but thats a little out of your range

i guess you could try the boss fuzz through your amp
but dont expect anything too good

Not positive yet. I'm looking into the Fender tube amps.

Great fuzz will sound great through a tube amp. You'll find alot of Davids OD/Fuzz pedals on the site I posted.

I'd look there for some ideas on what to get. However I still would avoid a Boss fuzz pedal and get something else.

Fender tube amps are really nice. What kind are you looking in to?

Because around $500 you can get a nice Bassman head.

They sound terrible on SS amps.

Thread starter:

There is no point to buying a fuzzbox for your amp. A fuzz into a MG (or pretty much any SS amp for that matter) will sound like the MG's overdrive channel: bees in a jar.

Save the money for when you get a tube amp.
