C9... that 3rd fret D on the 2nd string is a 9th over C.

This may help when starting, but I highly highly advise just learning how to name them on your own, ASAP. Especially since those things can be wrong with inversions and what not.

^No C9 is a dominant 9th chord (1 - 3 - 5 - b7 - 9), Cadd9 is a C major triad with an added 9th (1 - 3 - 5 - 9).
