I've just got meself a second hand fender jazz, with the serial no on the headstock, is there any way of checkin that no with fender to find out it's age, where it was made etc.

They are known to have the date of manufacture written on the heel of a neck or the neck pocket of the body.

If you find out the parts in your bass you can usually check them off against a parts list of bass' from different eras.

IE you can instantly know a CBS strat from the massive headstock but this happens less with the basses.

I hope you are joking, basses are trees, just cut into a different shape (unless you have one of those carbon fibre or acrylic ones), and doing that would find you the age of the tree it came from
